final animation

mostly i am very pleased with how my final animation turned out, especially with the "bad guy" character. As he played the major role in my animation i spent allot of time making shore he moved properly and that he had a lot of interesting facial expressions, but because i spent so much time perfecting my "bad guy" character i feel that my other characters in comparison look a little dull and lifeless but sadly i ran out of time to give them the same attention that i gave to the "bad guy". in the end i think that my work, especially with the "bad guy" character, is quite good and that my attempt a lip syncing was rather successful.
Enjoy.

also i do not know how to render in maya so i was stuck with this playblast, sorry for the quailty i tried to get it as good as i could.

Weak Villan Pose + other animations

i tried to make this pose look like he was begging someone not to kill him, backing into the corner

not extremely happy with this animation i wanted to make the character look around to see if anyone was watching but the head just kept spaszing out so i had to cut it out.

im fairly happy with this animation but would have liked to use my other animation for this exercise, but i couldnt open the file at home because i only have maya 9 and not maya 2009.
but im still fairly happy with this animation appart from a few speed issues.

Character Design Document Assignment

Animation test for the bad guy, i think it shows hes evilness rather well.

Animation test for Hero character. i think it shows the fact that he loves himself and is very arrogant.

Animation test for Princess character. i think it clearly shows how dumb she is.

Animatic

fairly pleased with how this turned out considering i have no idea how to make a camera in maya
I'm a 3ds Max guy :)
although there are some minor timing issues and there are a few less shots then in the story board. but in the final animation I'm really hoping that i can get the timing issues sorted out and have a crack at lip syncing

Story Board

Man in black "Then make your choice"

Vizzini: " I will, and i choose.....

".... What in the world can that be!"
Man in Black "What? Where?"
Man in Black "I dont see anything"
vinzzini swaps cups

Vinzzini " Oh, well I-I could have sworn i saw something. No matter.

im really pleased with how these came out and im really enjoying the facial animation which i have never done before.

Angry Pose for Villan

i neither like or dislike this pose.

Angry Pose for Princess

i find this pose my least favorite because this wasnt my original pose that i had in mind (turns out getting the andy rig to fold its arms without pinching is quite hard)
yeah and i dont think the hand on the hips look all that natural

Angry Pose for Hero

yeah im pretty happy with this pose, i think the stance looks fairly natural

Power pose for Hero

I'm really pleased with how this one turned out, I was going for a really cocky look on his face which i think i have achieved

Power pose for Princess character

Fairly pleased with this pose appart from the hand on the hip

power pose for villan character

i tried for the classic look into the sky and laugh, evil pose

Princess pose

for the princess i kind of envisioned the stupid bimbo blonde help me im an idiot style princess. this princess is relatively good looking with short blonde hair, not very tall or very intelligent. she is afraid of anything and everything, even though the hero has come to save her she is still even a little afraid of him. she is a very nervous person and is quite shy. for the pose i went for a kind of stupid / scared face with a gasp and hand up to the chin.

i guess i got influenced by alot of computer games where you have top save a damsell in distress, most of those games have the "damsell" as a good looking but rather stupid female character.

Villan pose

for the kidnapper / bad guy of the clip i envisioned a rather grotesque looking old man, balding with lots of gross warts and other skin defects all over his body. i thought he would look great with a hump back or hunched over look and really beady eyes. he is an evil old man but is also quite intelligent and is just as cunning and as arrogant as the hero of the clip. he cares for none but himself. for his pose i tried to get a real evil grin and overall kind of sleazy look on his face, and a somewhat hunched over look. i think the penguin from the batman movie kind of gave me some ideas for this character.

Hero character pose

for my "hero" character i envisioned a cunning and rather sly man reasonably tall with mid lenght black hair, completely arrogant with no sense of consequences he could talk his way out of any situation, but under the arrogance he is rather intelligent which makes him even more arrogant. for this pose i chose a kind of "casual" lean and a "i think im so good" expression on his face with a slightly "sly" grin. i think this pose really represents the character i imagine him to be in my head.
i guess the actually movie actor inspired the slightly sly grin for this pose.

Identify a Director who's work you like and explain why.

i love the work of Vincent Patar because its simple, funny, strange, unique and it just works. a town called panic is a shown that you can watch, understand nothing and still really enjoy it.

Discuss that Directors style and why you find it effective.

i love erratic and slapstick nature of his stop animation work. i love how anything can happen during his short animations. i thinks it is very affective to use such an erratic style of animation in his work because of the length of each episode, each one only lasting approx 5 mins.

Discuss your choice of sequence from the script and some early ideas you may have for animating it

im going to animate the last ten seconds of the script because i find it to be the most interesting /humorous part of that movie section. some of my earl ideas for this animation are based around the very last second when the guy dies and falls of his chair, im thinking of just having the character sit on a box but if i get time have him sit on a very general chair.

update:
after litening to the clip it goes alot longer than i originally thought it did so i will be animating the section of the script where vinzini fool the man in black to turn around and then he swaps the cups.
